Info
I am a Producer and DJ specialising in the experimental side of hip hop/rock/jazz and film music.
"I got in to hip hop when a friend came back from the US with RUN DMC'S TOUGHER THAN LEATHER" album so I taped it and played it constantly then started to discover hip hop a lot more from checking out Westwood on the Capital rap show. This made me want to scratch and learn how to put mix tapes together, but it took me about 12 years to actually buy some turntables cos of the grunge scene coming in...I got into the heavy side of music and started (attempting) to play guitar.
After djing for a bit and doing the odd party I finally decided to hit up music college and learnt how wack the pop music industry is!! Ha ha, no I learnt to make some beats and just figured out that any sound can be made and manipulated in to a song or another sound.
I started to get in to sampling and taking my love of horror movies with my love of old school hip hop and started making beats and songs."
DJ'd for the band MAIN STATE and also triggered samples, really I just made noise's..well thats what I was told at a gig by a member of the audience once ha ha!
I continue to dj as much as I can at partys and the odd wedding and continue the quest for musical enlightment (that sounds so wack!)
At the moment I am writing scores/ songs for movies and dancers, creating mix tapes, djing, making beats and Im down with the JKF (Jon Kennedy's label).
The near future for me is to finish a (3 years and going..) collaboration album with Phil Magee from Livingston, write a solo album ( THE RETURN OF DR DEATH) and continue composing and djing for the dance and film industry.
"Jazzed-up beats and subtle yet effective scratching by Chuckie Steel pleasantly jogs your memory back to the early 1990s. The U.K. DJ's scratching is not technically advanced, but it is clean, creative, and keeps his songs moving in the right direction"
